Gokyo trekking is one of the most popular trekking destinations in the Everest region. Gokyo Lake you will be astonished by the ice ridge between Cho Oyu and Gyanchungkang l in Khumbu Region. Gokyo Lake trekking provides panoramic views of Cho Oyu, Gyanchungkang, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Chola Tse, and Tawachee. This trek features the unbelievable scenery of the remote Gokyo Valley with the beautiful turquoise lakes, moonscape-like glaciers, Gokyo RI and stunning mountain vistas that include Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu – four of the eight highest peaks on earth. The panoramic view from Gokyo Ridge is the best in the Khumbu.

Gokyo trekking gives an alternative to Everest base camp trekking. It provides an opportunity to witness Himalayan Ranges with over 8000 m, including the highest mountain Mt Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu and the Ngozumpa Glacier (largest glacier in the Nepal Himalayas). Overall, the Gokyo trek is one of the most exciting and adventurous trekking routes of Everest Region Trek.  

Itinerary

  • Day-1 - Arrival to Kathmandu (1,380 Meters)

    Upon your arrival in Kathmandu (TIA), our representative from Hillstrek will be there to pick you up. You will be transferred to the hotel in half an hour drive with a private vehicle. We discuss our trip and you have time for refreshments. In the evening we are together again for welcome dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurant with a cultural program.

  • Day-2 - Half day sightseeing in Kathmandu (1,350 Meters)

    After breakfast, your tour guide will pick you up for half-day sightseeing in Kathmandu Durbar SquarePashupatinath Temple, and Bouddhanath Stupa. You will have your lunch in the restaurant with the view of Stupa then you back to the hotel. You will meet your trek leader and discuss the trek and do last minutes arrangements.

  • Day-3 - Fly to Lukla, trek to Phakding (2660 mtrs) 3-4 hours

    Early morning wake up and transfer to domestic airport with pack breakfast or after breakfast, depends on your flight schedule. Then you will experiment the flight to the real Himalaya with the view of Gaurisankar, Shisapangba including Mount Everest in your half an hour flight. When you arrive in Lukla you will meet the rest of our trekking crew and manage to arrangements of your backpack and begin our trek to Phakding. You will enjoy the trek downhill till Thadokoshi with the view of Khumbu-Gyula and the snow-capped mountain Kusum kangaroo. The trek will continue to Phakding through Ghat with the view of the monastery and some mane walls. 

  • Day-4 - Trek to Namche bazaar (3440 mtrs) 5-6 hours

    The day begins with crossing the river Dudhkoshi and head to the Benker through Tok Tok with gradual walking. We slightly climb up till Monjo where the entrance gate of the Sagarmatha National Park is. We cross the river, again and again, to go to Namchebazaar via Hillary bridge. Till Hillary bridge, the trail goes gradually up and down then it goes step up till Namche bazaar. If the weather permits, we can see the view of Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse on the way. Namche bazaar is the transit point for a different trek in the Everest region and the big market place of the Sherpa community as well as Tibetan.

  • Day-5 - Acclimatization Day (3440 mtrs) 3-4 hours

    The day begins with a spectacular view of Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, Mount Amadablam and many more mountains of Himalaya. After breakfast, we head up to Khumjung village and monastery via Everest view lodge which is located in the altitude of 3900mtrs and it’s really useful for acclimatization. We visit the place where the Yeti skull still exists. We back to Namche bazaar through the Khumjung secondary school whose founder is Sir Edmund Hillary himself and Syangbochen where the highest airstrip located on.

  • Day-6 - Trek to Dole (4130mtrs) 5-6 hours

    We leave the main trail to Everest base camp and follow the way to Gokyo valley. The trail goes step up till Mong and then step down to Fortes thanga, it goes again gradually and steps up till Dole. You can get clear views of snowy peaks, mountains, and vegetations. You can observe their living style and culture. People over here irrigate the crops for their needs and earn their income. Farming and lodging are the main occupations of the people here.

  • Day-7 - Trek to Machchermu (4470mtrs) 4-5 hours

    Crossing Dole, you will be headed to Machermo which is the way to Gokyo. On the way to Gokyo, you can get an excellent view of the valleys. We have to climb the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier. Ngozumpa Glacier is one of the major attraction because of its appearance in the world’s second-largest glaciers

  • Day- 8 - Trek to Gokyo (4770mtrs) 3-4 hours

    Your nearest way to the wonderful village Gokyo begins here. At the morning, you will be starting trekking towards Gokyo. After trekking through 1st and 2nd lakes you will get 3rd lake which is called Gokyo lake. You have to trek via Ngozumpa Glacier where the trail selects its zigzagged path. Gokyo village is situated on the northern shore of Dudh Pokhari which looks amazingly outstanding. Although it is far from the urban city it doesn’t lack any facilities for the trekkers. This village is the main attraction of the trek. Gokyo valley trekking is an alternative route to traditional trails to the Everest Base Camp.

  • Day- 9 - Early morning hike up to Gokyo Ri (5360mtrs) for sunrise view on himalaya, trek back to Dole (4130mtrs)

    Today is the main day of the trek. Early in the morning hike up to Gokyo Ri for sunrise view on Himalaya including Mount Everest. Gokyo Ri is the viewpoint from where we can see the four highest mountains in the world out of fourteen. The view of Gokyo lake, Gokyo village, and Ngozumpa glacier is memorable. After breakfast, we trek back downhill to Dole via Machchermu.

  • Day- 10 - Trek to Monjo (2840mtrs) 5-6 hours

    We go all the way downhill except the step climbing up to Mong about 45 minutes. We again discover the breathtaking view of Amadablam and other mountains as well as the village Namchebazar. The trail goes step down to the Hillary bridge and we get Monjo after crossing Dudhkoshi river couple of times on the gradual walk.

  • Day- 11 - Trek to Lukla (2,800m trs) 5-6 hours

    Today is the last day of the trek. The trail goes gradually up and down. We will remind you again enjoying the lush green scenery around and passing through the incredible mountain scenery and local Sherpa village until Lukla. You’ll have time to wander around the areas and guide will re-confirm your flight ticket and enjoy the last celebrate dinner with your crew.

  • Day- 12 - Fly back to Kathmandu

    Normally, the flight for Kathmandu is morning due to the wind in the afternoon; sometime the flight time can be delayed due to bad weather and other reason beyond our control. Anyway, we will fly back to Kathmandu and drive to the Hotel, there you relax after a long journey and take back your breath and rest at your hotel the rest of the day.

  • Dat- 13 - Leisure day in Kathmandu

    After the long trek, you need a day to relax and refreshment. You can go to a massage and buy souvenirs etc. We meet in the evening for a farewell dinner.

  • Day- 14 - Departure

    We will transfer you to the International Airport for your departure flight to your onward destination. You must leave the hotel 3 hours earlier than your scheduled flight time.
